Facebook Photo Sinks Man Who Stole Police Gas
A Kentucky man is facing a misdemeanor rap after he siphoned gasoline from a police car, a theft that came to the attention of cops after the perp posted a Facebook photo memorializing the crime.
As seen in the above photo, as Michael Baker, 20, was swiping the gas last month from a Jenkins Police Department squad car, he made sure to flip the bird as his girlfriend snapped a picture.

Overreacts To Facebook’s Instagram Acquisition, Users Delete Accounts
Not everyone is happy about Facebook’s acquisition of Instagram this morning, it seems. In an apparent insta-backlash, a bunch of folks are tweeting about their intentions to delete their Instagram accounts now that Facebook has tainted their trendy social network with its massive data-grabbing paws.

Japan is one of seven markets in the world where Facebook is not the leading social network
In fact, Japan is one of seven markets in the world where Facebook is not the leading social network (other areas on this short list include Vietnam, South Korea, Poland, China, Russia and Brazil).
Facebook’s lack of popularity in Japan is old news, though. Japanese participants in a study last year said they thought Facebook was less secure and more complicated to use than the alternatives.
Also, we have to remember the Japanese culture values anonymity — a commodity you won’t find anywhere on Facebook, which is committed to real-world name usage and pictures of users rather than avatars. On Twitter, anonymity is not a problem; in fact, some of the most politically and socially interesting uses of the network have required anonymity, and Twitter allows and encourages such uses.

When ReShonda Tate Billingsley let her daughter open an Instagram account, the Houston novelist made clear to her what would be appropriate to post to the picture-sharing site.
The mother wasn’t impressed when she saw a couple of weeks ago that the 12-year-old took a picture of herself with unopened alcohol bottle from her father’s bar and posted it with the caption, “Wish I could drink this vodka.”

“The Facebook Mafia isn’t waiting for an IPO to strike out on their own as company alumni have already raised $271 million of venture capital funding since 2006. And the Facebook Mafia’s momentum appears to be accelerating with the group pulling in $130 million in just the first 5.5 months of 2012, a 137% increase over all of 2011, and the highest total in the last 6.5 years (graph below). For those unfamiliar with the term, the Facebook Mafia refers to alumni of Facebook who’ve gone on to found new startup companies.

Mark Zuckerberg collabing with David Choe at Facebook HQ.
Mark Zuckerberg added his touch to a graffiti wall at Facebook’s new headquarters. In the video above, graffiti artist David Choe, who was commissioned to paint the wall, incorporates a stick figure painted by the Facebook founder into a mohawked trollish creature wearing a wife beater with a raised fist. It’s quite a transformation.

How to find out everything that Facebook *really* knows about you
Max Schrems, a 24-year-old law student from Vienna, a meticulous document requester and researcher, is now sitting on a pile of 1,200 pages that comprise his personal-data Facebook dossier.
He secured the data by using a European requirement that entities with data about individuals make it available to those individuals if they request it.
After Mr. Schrems made the request, Facebook handed over a CD containing data that’s now fueling 22 complaints that the law student has filed against Facebook with the Irish Data Protection Commissioner (according to Facebook, European users have a relationship with the Irish Facebook subsidiary).
